Munster have confirmed that a second senior player has tested positive for COVID-19.

However, Saturday's Guinness PRO14 game with Edinburgh at Thomond Park will still go ahead.

The latest player to test positive is asymptomatic, but had already been self-isolating. Earlier this week, Munster confirmed six possible close contacts were restricting their movements.

The province have confirmed the second positive case is directly linked to the first. Both players are being monitored medically and remain well.

Training has been suspended since the first case was confirmed on Tuesday, but will resume on Friday following "consultation with public health officials".

A separate case involving an academy player has also been confirmed. However, that player had not been at the High Performance Centre this week and tested positive after reporting symptoms.

Munster Rugby Head of Medical, Dr Jamie Kearns, said, "We have taken all necessary precautions this week by standing down squad training and carrying out a second round of testing.

“We are very grateful for the support from public health services and thankfully the processes we have in place help us mitigate the risk factor as we prioritise the health and safety of our players and staff.

“We look forward to resuming our training programme tomorrow."
