Scott Mercier was someone who got into cycling at a relatively late age.

He got into the sport aged 22 and quickly found that he had a real aptitude for the sport.

Within 15 months he was an Olympian and shortly after that ended up at the infamous US Postal team led by Lance Armstrong.

Not long after that, Mercier realised doping was going to be a big part of working within that team, leading him to quit the sport in 1997.

Tonight he joined us on Off The Ball to talk about his experience of witnessing doping policy first hand within US Postal and his thoughts on the current situation in cycling with the background of positive tests at the Astana Team

He explained why he thinks the UCI have not been hard enough, saying "I think we need to reach a point where everyone is held accountable."

He added that based on what has been coming out recently, "doping did not end with Lance Armstrong" and that he is disheartened by the way money continues to talk and prevent real change in cycling.

Mercier also said he and Armstrong have reconnected and our quite close now.
