The SAG Awards, which are decided exclusively by actors, are distinguished from the Globes, which are chosen by a group of about 80 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The five 'film' SAG awards is also said to set the stage for the Oscars, voted by about 8,000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Oscars take place in a few weeks time.
Daniel Day-Lewis, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence and Claire Danes were among some of the stars who picked up awards last night. Once again, however, it was Ben Affleck who stole the show with his film Argo.
Downton Abbey also picked up a prize for Best Drama with the Lifetime Achievement Award going to veteran actor Dick van Dyke. Here is the full list of all the winners:
