It was a bit of a case of the walking wounded for champion jockey Ruby Walsh tonight when he joined the lads at the Mercantile today.
Ruby broke his arm a couple weeks ago ahead of the Cheltenham Gold Cup and faces a couple of months out of action. It's only the latest in a litany of injuries.
"Riding horses you're going to get hurt, it's as simple as that," said Ruby who admitted that the first time he fell off a horse saw him in land in some nettles. But he also admits the mental pain is much more acute than the physical pain.
"At this stage, I should be getting better with dealing with injuries but it's worse I'm getting. I'd hate to be living with me and thankfully the wife hasn't left me yet. I should be finding it easier but that's probably the competitive streak that's in me."
The 34-year-old also gave an insight into the mental and physical skill level involved in horse racing.
"You have to be tactically aware of what's going on. If Brian O'Driscoll gets the ball, is he just concentrating on the ball or is he worried about the players around him? Tactically, you have to be switched on from the time you get on the horse. That's what I love about tactics within racing. I'm given the responsibility by the trainer and I'm allowed to ad lib and trust my instinct."
Ruby also told us what Alex Ferguson told him after he told the former Manchester United manager that he should sell Nani.
