Liverpool 1 - 1 FC Basel

Liverpool bowed out of the Champions League group stages after failing to find a winner against their Swiss opponents.

In need of a win to secure progress to the last-16, the Reds went 1 - 0 down in the first half as Fabian Frei gave Basel a 25th minute lead.

Liverpool's task was made even harder when winger Lazar Markovic was shown a red card with half an hour to play.

The Serbian's hand appeared to strike Behrang Safari in the face, although replays showed minimal contact.

Steven Gerrard gave his side hope with 10 minutes to go with a wonderful free-kick, but the Reds were unable to find the goal they needed to advance.

Basel are into the last-16 as group runners-up to Real Madrid.

Galatasaray 1 - 4 Arsenal

The Gunners bounced back from the weekend defeat to Stoke as they claimed a comfortable victory in Turkey.

A brace each from Lukas Podolski and Aaron Ramsey helped set Arsenal on their way, with the latter's second goal particularly impressive.

Dutch international Wesley Sneijder scored Galatasaray's goal two minutes from time.

However, Arsenal finished second to Borussia Dortmund in their group on head-to-head results, after Jurgen Klopp's side drew at home to Anderlecht to take top spot.
