The Roscommon County Board are to open nominations for the job of the football team's manager, after the resignation of Fergal O'Donnell.

O'Donnell was joint-manager with Kevin McStay, before he stepped down on Tuesday night, with selectors Stephen Bohan and David Casey. The Mayo duo of McStay and selector Liam McHale remain in their positions.

In a statement released by O'Donnell, he revealed a  "concerted effort has been made (outside of management and players) to undermine and disparage us."

The County Board met on Wednesday night to discuss the O'Donnell resignation and decided to open applications for the job, citing they were to "open the position of County Team Manager to an open competition."

O'Donnell and McStay led the team to the semi-finals of the Allianz League and to a Connacht Final. They were eventually beaten by Clare in the final round of the Football Qualifiers.

McStay remains the favourite to get the job, after sharing it for a year with O'Donnell.
