Ireland legend Ronan O'Gara says he wants his La Rochelle team to play with some southern hemisphere flair.

Dillyn Leyds and Arthur Retiere scored tries for the French side as they secured a home Heineken Champions Cup quarter-final with a 27-16 win at Gloucester last night.

O'Gara spent two years coaching at Super Rugby powerhouse Crusaders and he says he's applying some of the knowledge he acquired in New Zealand at La Rochelle.

"There are some very good players in our team, and we have a great mix and variety," the former Munster star told BT Sport after the game at Kingsholm

"There is a big emphasis in the northern hemisphere on the ruck, but what I learned from my time with the Crusaders is you need to keep the ball alive.

"That's something I'm interested in myself. You've seen tonight, in the dry conditions, you don't even have to think about catching or passing - you can do that. So we're trying to have speed on the passing and keeping it alive".
