Arsene Wenger has never defeated a Ronald Koeman-managed team away from home in a league match.

Since Koeman joined Southampton ahead of the 2014-15 season, Wenger's Arsenal have lost twice at St. Mary's. On Tuesday night, they lost 2-1 to Everton in Goodison Park.

After the match, the Arsenal manager complained about the performance of referee Mark Clattenburg. Wenger claimed that a corner given to Everton, in the build-up to Seamus Coleman's opening goal should not have been given.

After being made known of Wenger's complaints, Koeman was quick to remind his counterpart of their previous history in the past two seasons.

“It is the third time in a row I won at home against Arsenal as a manager and three times in a row it was about the referee. I’m sorry, Arsenal – we won through the referee’s decision. I’m sorry.”

Despite Arsenal taking the lead in the first half, goals from Coleman and Wales captain Ashley Williams gave Everton a 2-1 win. They now lie in seventh place.

Arsenal lost the opportunity, to join Chelsea at the top of the table. On Wednesday night, Antonio Conte's side will move six points clear if they defeat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
