Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he was offered the chance to work under Harry Redknapp if he ended up becoming England manager.

Redknapp targeted the Northern Irishman, who was then at Swansea, during the period when it was widely believed he would be the successor to Fabio Capello.

Roy Hodgson ended up getting the job, ahead of the Euro 2012 finals.

Redknapp made the revelation in his recent autobiography and last week he told Off The Ball that he has always been a huge admirer of the current Liverpool manager.

However, Rodgers played down talk that he accepted the offer as Redknapp had suggested.

"My version was that in April, when I was manager at Swansea, Harry had asked me after the game when we played. He pulled me aside and it was a unique conversation because he was obviously very confident - as was the nation - he was going to be offered the national team job," said Rodgers.

"It was a quick conversation. I was aware he was very keen for me to team up with him if he was given the role. But there was no decision either way. Out of the respect I have for Harry I was going to consider it."
