Is it time for Declan Kidney to go? Even if Ireland can get wins against France and Italy?

The question remains of course, if the IRFU do get rid of Kidney, who replaces him?

Reggie Corrigan spoke with Newstalk Breakfast’s Phil Egan earlier today and told Phil that while for many the question over Ireland’s current head coach might be clear, the question about his successor is not.

“The Irish structure needs to be very careful about not making a knee jerk reaction and just going for it for the sake of it. There’s got to be a carefully planned successor put in place there, who can bring the team forward, and you’re not just thinking about two years, you’ve got to be thinking about the four year period from now on.”

Would Schmidt or Conor O’Shea even be attainable for the IRFU? Could they prise them away from their respective clubs?

Would Eric Elwood want the job, considering his reasons for leaving Connacht? Has he done enough to warrant the job?

Does this throw major questions up about the production of top class coaches in Ireland?

Reggie points out that, “It’s one of the top eight jobs in the world so it takes a certain type of coach and they’re few and far between at the moment.”
