The Premier League say all games will go ahead as planned from this weekend.

It follows the judgement from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson who claims all sporting events should go ahead as planned despite the global coronavirus pandemic.

The decision to continue comes on a day when Leicester City confirmed that three of their players were in quarantine after showing minor symptoms of coronavirus.

Leicester are due to play Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday lunchtime.

Meanwhile, Manchester City full-back Benjamin Mendy is self-isolating after a member of his family was admitted to hospital displaying symptoms of coronavirus.

City had their Premier League game with Arsenal postponed on Wednesday night as some Arsenal players had entered self-isolation.

The Premier League statement seems to end speculation that games could be played behind closed doors.

Speaking ahead of the Watford game, Rodgers said, "This is about health. This is more than football, this is players and their families and children, so any risks that are there for their health and everyone else’s, we have to mitigate against that.

"So the few players who have shown the symptoms, we’ve obviously self-isolated them if you want to say that, and then we’ll see how that develops over the next couple of days."

A statement reads:

Following the latest update from Government issued this afternoon, all Premier League matches will go ahead as scheduled this weekend.

While the Prime Minister advised that all sporting events should take place as normal for now, he also indicated that Government is considering banning major public events, like sporting fixtures.

We are therefore continuing to work closely with our clubs, Government, The FA, EFL and other relevant stakeholders to ensure appropriate contingency plans are in place as and when circumstances change.

The welfare of players, staff and supporters is of paramount importance and we will continue to follow Public Health England guidelines thoroughly.

We will keep everyone updated as appropriate.
