Mark English has qualified from his Heat in the 800 metres in Rio.

The Donegalman finished in third place in Heat 6 today in a time of 1:46.40 seconds.

That was enough to send him through to the next round.

Reigning gold medallist David Rudisha of Kenya, who was coached by Irishman Colm O'Connell in 2012, set the fastest time in the heats with a time of 1:45.09.
