It was an international test career which saw his hands lift up the Webb Ellis Cup on two occasions, but for Richie McCaw it all began at Landsdowne Road.
The long-time All Blacks captain announced his retirement last night, just over 14 years to the day when he first donned the New Zealand shirt at senior test level against Ireland.
On November 17th 2001, the All Blacks beat Ireland 40-29 with debutant McCaw winning Man of the Match, describing the experience as "a hell of a stadium to play at, a real rugby stadium, a big crowd – something I'll always remember, very special".
