On Sunday, Dutch cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten was involved in a horrible crash during the Women's Road Race at Rio 2016.
Her bike left the track while she was leading the race, causing her to plunge into a storm drain at the side of the track where she lay motionless, leading to concern about her condition.
She ultimately suffered concussion as well as three minor fractures to the vertebrae on her lower spine as a result.
But she appears to be on the road to recovery two days after the crash and thanked well-wishers via her Twitter account, posting a picture with a bandage over her left eye with heavy bruising on the lower lid:
Thanks for all the messages. Hard to deal with my disappointment but also proud about our performance #teamNL pic.twitter.com/9uRaRniFV6
