Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will need at least three months to recover from being stabbed according to a spokesman for the tennis player.

She had surgery on her racket holding left hand after being injured during an attempted burglary at her Czech Republic home this morning.

Kvitova earlier tweeted that she felt fortunate to still be alive.

The incident is being described as a burglary on Tuesday morning in the eastern Czech town of Prostejov.

Mr Tejkal told Czech news agency CTK: "It was a random criminal act. She was assaulted in her apartment and is in the care of doctors, but her injuries are not life threatening."

Czech media has reported the assailant made off with 5000 Czech Koruna (£155).

Ms Kvitova is currently recovering from a fractured foot and recently withdrew from the Hopman Cup mixed-team tournament in January.

Earlier this year, she won bronze at the Olympic Games in Rio after beating Madison Keys.
