Stuart Pearce is to leave his position as England's Under-21s coach.

The FA have announced his contract will not be renewed when it runs out at the end of the month.

The team suffered a disappointing campaign at the European Under 21 Championships, losing all three of their group stage matches.

Steve McClaren and Gareth Southgate are the early favourites to replace the former England international.

Pearce's greatest achievement for the U21s came when his team reached the European Championship final in 2009.
