The Irishman, who narrowly missed out on a maiden European Tour victory at the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco on Sunday, carded a 2-under par 70.

The Greystones golfer carded five birdies, with a triple bogey on the 5th hole the only blemish on his opening day of action in China.

He is on 6-under par after carding a 66, including six birdies and a an eagle on the 2nd hole.
There is a five way tie for second on 5-under.
But not everyone completed their first round at the event in China as bad weather and then darkness caused play to be suspended.
