Luis Suarez has been in scintillating form of late and added two more superb strikers in the 3 - 1 over Cardiff City on Saturday to send Liverpool top of the Premier League.

While Suarez would not have been eligible for any Player of the Year crowns last year because of his behaviour, former Chelsea and Everton midfielder Pat Nevin reckons his form on the field this season makes him a strong favourite for honours come season's end. But it is his recent behaviour which has impressed Nevin.

"It's taken people a long time to forgive Suarez for some of his misdemeanors. But I watched him on and off the ball during that game and his behaviour was impeccable. Not only to his opponents but also to his team-mates as well. His selflessness throughout was fantastic. There was no diving about and he was absolutely impeccable. It may well be that he has been given the captain's armband and finally seen the light about how to behave in society."

Nevin also touched on the ludicrous situation at Cardiff City where owner Vincent Tan has been busy backtracking on his bizarre decision to try to force out manager Malky Mackay.

Nevin believes Everton's Ross Barkley, who scored a free-kick winner at Swansea, is a shoo-in for England's 2014 World Cup squad.
