Padraig Walsh reflected on a job well done for Kilkenny as they claimed the Allianz Hurling League Division 1 title.

The Cats lifted their 18th league title at Nowlan Park after seeing off rivals Tipperary.

The triumph marks a miraculous turnaround by Brian Cody’s side, who were pointless after two rounds of the competition.

But Walsh never doubted his team’s ability to turn things around.

“We’re absolutely delighted,” Walsh told OTB’s Oisin Langan.

“It’s a few years since we’ve won the league, so to get back here is absolutely brilliant, we’re absolutely delighted.

“We knew going into the league it’s very close, everyone is taking points off each other. We knew even after the two losses [at the start of the season] there wasn’t much in it.

“We knew if we turned things around we’d have a great chance.

“We’ve had a lot of fresh faces this year and they’re really after driving things on. There’s great lads coming through there and they’re all great ball winners. They were brilliant today and brilliant all through the league, so it’s great for them.

“It was a very close game. We went in at half-time two points down, so we knew we had a lot of work to do in the second half.

“Wally [Walter Walsh] got a great goal and it really drove us on for the second half. When you’re in a final everyone wants to win it. When you go out at the start of the league, you want to be here lifting that cup, so we’re just delighted we got there today.”
