Only one Capital One Cup game was decided within the 90 minutes tonight and it was a shock result.

Championship side Sheffield Wednesday threw pre-match expectations out the window as they humiliated Arsenal 3-0 at Hillsbrough.

The Gunners came into the game on the back of a run which had seen them beat Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Everton in the Premier League and Champions League in recent weeks, but having made nine changes, manager Arsene Wenger watched on as his side was knocked out of the competition.

Ross Wallace put Wednesday in front midway through the first half, before Lucas Joao doubled the lead five minutes before the break.

To add insult to injury - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott were withdrawn - Arsenal conceded a third as Sam Hutchinson converted from close range in the second half.

Tonight's three other League Cup ties went to extra-time.
