Former Ireland striker Owen Coyle is to become Wigan manager.

The ex-Burnley and Bolton boss takes over from Roberto Martinez who left the club for Everton.

Coyles first task maybe hanging onto midfielder James Mc Carthy who has been linked with moves to Everton among others.

It has been a mixed time for Wigan of late winning the FA Cup but then being relegated to the Championship.
