A new formation could be in the offing for the Republic of Ireland tonight as Martin O'Neill continues to experiment with his squad.

The newly appointed Ireland boss has promised that his side will be positive in possession when they face Poland tonight in Poznan, but he has hinted at a more conservative approach than the side that lined-out against Latvia last Friday.

However, he has also told his players that the performance is more important than the result, particularly with the changes planned.

"Of course, it would be nice to do well. Everyone is up for it. But it would be better to have a better knowledge of the players at the end of the two games than if we used the same players," said O'Neill.

Robbie Keane will not start the game with an Achilles problem, while the likes of John O'Shea and Kieren Westwood are also expected to be dropped as O'Neill tests different options.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
