Less than a year after retiring as a player, Oisin McConville has taken on a prominent role at Crossmaglen Rangers.
The ex-Armagh star and John McEntee were appointed joint-managers of the club that they represented with such distinction over the years.
With former manager Joe Kernan leaving the role, McConville told Off The Ball that promotion to the seniors was a natural step up.
"The writing was on the wall so I suppose myself and John had to step up. A lot of past players have done it. I'm glad to get a crack at it and be in senior management. Hopefully we can kick on next year," said McConville.
Many members of the All Ireland-winning Armagh team including Kieran McGeeney and Justin McNulty have gone on to management and McConville believes it was a natural progression for that crop of players.
"I'll be honest with you, a lot of boys in that dressing room fancied themselves even before quitting football. That's the natural progression for a lot of them especially in the coaching side of it. That's the sort of element that myself and John want to bring to the table. There's a lot to be said for man-management but the actual coaching side and trying to improve players is a big thing for us," he explained, revealing that he been in contact with former Kildare boss Kieran McGeeney since taking the role.
