10 years on Steve Bartman might have kept his hands in his pockets.

On October 14th, 2003 the Chicago Cubs fan's life changed forever.

Seated in the first row at the eighth inning of Game 6 of a Major League Baseball Playoff, Bartman was watching his beloved Cubs holding a 3 - 2 lead in the series against the Florida Marlins and a 3 - 0 lead in the game.

They were on the verge of reaching their first World Series since 1945 when the hand of fate intervened - a moment known as the Steve Bartman incident...

Cubs left-fielder Moises Alou was trying to catch a foul ball just below Bartman's area of the stand. But the fan attempted to catch it, failed and in doing so also deflected the ball away from Alou.

The Cubs then collapsed and ended up losing the game 8 - 3.

Bartman was immediately branded a scapegoat and as he was escorted out of the stadium, fellow fans confronted him aggressively and threw beer cans and anything they could get their hands on at him.

Word soon leaked about his identity on baseball message boards and he required police protection around his home. He has not surfaced publicly since then.

He also declined an offer to appear in ESPN 30 For 30 documentary Catching Hell which detailed the entire controversy.

The director of that 2011 doc Ron Rapaport was on Off The Ball last night to discuss whether those involved can move on and give Bartman his life back.
