Novak Djokovic overcame a slightly stuttering start to crush Belgium's David Goffin in a hugely impressive straight sets quarter-final win on Centre Court at Wimbledon this afternoon.

Goffin, playing in his first quarter-final at SW19, broke serve to lead 4-3 in the first set but that proved to be a catalyst for Djokovic and not the Belgian.

The Serb won the next three games to claim the first set and Goffin would not win another game in the match until the third set which the defending champion also claimed to seal a 6-4 6-0 6-2 victory.

"He started well," Djokovic told BBC Television after his win.

"He was dictating the play from the baseline. Things could have gone a different way, who knows what the match would have looked like if I had lost the first set, but I was very pleased with the second and third.

"I had a tough match in the third round. Other than that, I’ve won in straight sets and played really well throughout the tournament. It’s exactly what I wanted and hopefully I can go in the right direction in the semis as well."

Novak Djokovic set to meet Spanish world no 22 in semi-finals

Standing between Djokovic and a sixth men's singles final appearance is  Roberto Bautista Agut who booked a place in his first ever Grand Slam championship semi-final by beating Argentine Guido Pella.

The world number 22 from Spain had yet to drop a set on the way to the last-eight and looked like he might keep that impressive feat going when he won the first two sets.

Pella, ranked 26 in the world, fought back to take the third but then looked like he ran out of steam as Bautista Agut won the last set to seal the win 7-5 6-4 3-6 6-3.

The semi-final will take place on Centre Court this Friday afternoon.
