Greta Streimikyte says she can't blame the heat for finishing outside the medals in the T13 1500-meters final at the World Para Athletics Championships.

The 2018 European champion placed fifth in a time of 4:48:75 in Dubai.

Lithuania-born Streimikyte, who was fourth at the Rio Paralympics, had been targeting a place on the podium after picking up European medals in 2016 and 2018.

The Clonliffe Harriers club woman says all the athletes had to deal with the intense midday heat and that it can't be an excuse for her performance.

"When you are out there you don't really think about it and I did train a lot during the same period, I tried to adapt as best as I can during the time that I was here.

"I can’t blame the heat because, at the end of the day, we were all in the same boat."

Tomorrow Michael McKillop will make his long-await return in the T38 1500m final.

The reigning world champion hasn't competed since suffering an injury at the London games in 2018.
