Nico Rosberg has been given a 10 second penalty for crashing into team-mate Lewis Hamilton at the Austrian F1 Grand Prix.

He has also been given two penalty points. If a driver incurs a total of 12 points, they will then face a suspension from the next race.

The last lap incident enabled the British driver and reigning world champion to overtake the current championship leader on the way to winning the race.

Rosberg's fourth-place finish will still stand and his points tally will not be affected. Fifth-place Daniel Ricciardo was more than 10 seconds in arrears in Austria.

It became clear that race stewards viewed Rosberg to be in the wrong for the collision as they confirmed that they would be investigating the German rather than Hamilton. They concluded that Rosberg did not leave "racing room" in his defence of the race lead.

Both drivers, unsurprisingly, put the blame on each other after the race.
