Nicky Butt believes Adnan Januzaj is a player with potential to lead Manchester United to the biggest prizes in the game.

The talented attacking midfielder's progress has stalled since bursting onto the scene during David Moyes' season in charge.

And this season, he is trying to rekindle his career at Sunderland on loan.

Ex-Man United midfielder and Class of 92 academy graduate, Butt, is currently head of coaching at the club's academy.

Speaking to The Times in an in-depth interview, Butt said players like Paddy McNair (now at Sunderland) and Tyler Blackett (now at Reading) weren't at the level to have futures at United, hence why they were let go.

"They're really good lads and will have a good life, nice houses but they weren't at the level for United. It doesn't hurt me as much as, say, if Adnan Januzaj went and never came back," he said.

"He's got the level to play for United and win leagues and Champions Leagues. Maybe he's not been as dedicated, a case of too much too soon, a millionaire now."

Butt also reserved praise for Marcus Rashford who has made a sensational impact since making his first team debut last season.

"You couldn’t pick a better player to be at this club, or any big club, than Marcus. He still parks his car out the front, not round the back with all the first-team players."
