Niall O'Brien was the star for Ireland's cricketers today as Phil Simmons side picked up the first win of their acclimatisation tour of Australia and New Zealand.
O'Brien top-scored with a tally of 88 runs as Ireland beat the ACT Comets by 124 runs in a day and night game in Canberra.
O'Brien, who was one of four changes to the side that lost twice to Queensland, shared a sixth wicket stand of 83 in just 51 balls with Andrew Poynter while John Mooney hit an unbeaten 41 off just 20 balls as Ireland posted a target of 303 for the home side.
Peter Chase and Craig Young both took three wickets for Ireland as they cruised to a comfortable victory.
