After losing the rights to broadcasting live GAA to Sky Sports, there was good news for TV3 this week when it was announced that the independent station had beaten RTE to the broadcast rights for next year's Rugby World Cup.

To discuss the coup, we spoke to Niall Cogley, TV3 Director of Broadcasting.

"It wouldn't have been nice to emerge from two auctions with nothing," he admitted.

"I guess we're just delighted that we emerged with the rugby for next year. It's a big year for us next year and a very important property. We're disappointed that our GAA bid wasn't successful but very happy that our Rugby World Cup bid was."

All 48 matches will be broadcast live on TV3 and 3e and there may be a link with ITV in terms of logistics and Cogley also touched on the potential pundits who might be drafted in.
