One of the talking points ahead of the Europa League final was Maurizio Sarri's future.

It's not clear what lies ahead for the Chelsea manager after Baku. But one thing that was clear at their open training session yesterday was that the Italian was unhappy about something.

He stormed off the Baku pitch and threw his cap away en route. Many reports linked that to an altercation between Chelsea players Gonzalo Higuain and David Luiz.

But that's not quite the case and it seems some media linked both events erroneously. Regular Off The Ball contributor and ex-Chelsea winger Pat Nevin is in Baku and saw what actually happened.

Little Contretemps

"So I'm watching the training and three or four Chelsea players had had little niggles," he said.

"They went over on their ankles and stuff like that. And then there was this little contretemps between Higuain and David Luiz. Any ex-player would watch and say, 'We see that every single training session'. But because training sessions aren't open, it never gets to any of the press.

"This is normal. This is every single training session. So it has no effect. But what then happened was Sarri was walking off, throwing his cap to the ground.

"Then those two things were spliced together. But they didn't happen one after the other. And by the time I got out afterwards, I noticed that they were spliced together, and I went, 'That's not what happened! I was there'.

"But I can tell you for sure, Sarri was fuming - but not with that!"

Pat also discussed the Europa League final and John Terry and Frank Lampard's managerial futures. Derby boss Lampard has been linked with a return to Chelsea. But what if he got the job and results didn't spark straight away?

"Frank's got an excellent thing in his locker as well. Chelsea fans won't turn on him and the club will give him more time than just about any player," said Pat.
