Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has criticized the efforts of winger Eden Hazard.

The Belgian was deemed culpable for one of the goals Atletico Madrid scored on Wednesday night to knock Chelsea out of the Champions League. 

After that game, the 23-year-old told French TV that Chelsea's problem was that they were "not built to play football" and that he had to carry a lot of responsibility in the attacking third.

Those comments were seen as an indirect slight at Jose Mourinho's negative tactics but his manager has now hit back.

""There was nothing critical in what he said. When the comments come from a player like Eden, it's normal because he's not the kind of player to sacrifice himself for the team," said Mourinho who highlighted the Belgian's error leading up to one of the goals.

"Eden is the kind of player that is not so mentally ready to look back to his left-back and to leave his life for him."

Hazard has scored 14 goals and assisted a further seven - the highest proportion for the team in the Premier League this season.
