Phil Mickelson lead’s the US Open going into the final day, with a score of 1 under par enough for the outright lead after yesterday’s round.
The American sits just one shot ahead of Charl Schwartzel, Steve Stricker and Hunter Mahan.
Luke Donald is one further shot back, following a double bogey on the par 4 18th. In total there are 7 players within two shots of the leader.
The course at Merion has provided a stern test for golf’s finest, with many of the pre-tournament favourites drifting back from the leader as they post high scores. Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have been neck and neck for most of the weekend, and that paired form continued yesterday, as McIlroy hit 5 over for the day to fall to 8 over for the tournament, while Woods fell to 9 over for the tournament.
Padraig Harrington also dropped 5 shots, leaving him at 9 over. Irish amateur Kevin Phelan made the cut but has since fallen prey to the whims of the Merion course, dropping a further 8 shots yesterday to leave him on 16 over for the tournament.
