Michael Conlan will be on the main card for his professional debut at Madison Square Garden.

The former World Amateur boxing champion and two-time Irish Olympian had already confirmed that his first fight as a professional would be on St Patrick's Day next year after signing up with renowned American promoter, Bob Arum.

But now the status of the fight has been confirmed and Conlan will headline the card at the iconic New York venue.

However, an opponent has yet to be confirmed.

Ring TV quote Bob Arum as saying that "it’s going to be an unbelievable event" and that he expects "thousands of people are going to be flying in from Ireland to New York to watch it".

Conlan confirmed he was going pro last month after the disappointing controversy of the Rio Olympics when the favourite for gold was adjudged to have lost a quarter-final fight to Vladimir Nikitin despite the majority of observers scoring the fight in the Belfast fighter's favour.
