Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell are one shot off the lead at the WGC Cadillac Championship at Doral.

The Northern Irish duo is on level par going into the weekend, sitting just behind a four way tie on one under. Four Americans share the lead – Hunter Mahan, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson.

The Blue Monster course has proved a testing environment as high winds contributed to more than one hundred shots ending up in the water and the non-existence of low scoring rounds. Only three golfers – McDowell, Chris Kirk and Welshman Jamie Donaldson – could make an under par score.

Tiger Woods shot a 76 to fall to six shots off the pace. It was the highest score Tiger has carded in 40 rounds at Doral. A 92-foot birdie putt on the fourth offered a glimpse of sunshine for Tiger as he made his way around the weather battered course but it proved a fleeting encounter.

Adam Scott can become the number one ranked golfer in the world with a win this weekend – and Tiger Woods finishes outside the top 10 – hit two double bogeys and four birdies on the way to a one over 73. Three birdies in the final five holes were a significant boost to the Australian who had been 10 shots off the pace at one point during his round.
