Aiden McGeady believes his new manager, Roberto Martinez, is “different class” and capable of managing one of the world’s biggest clubs.

McGeady joined Everton from Spartak Moscow in January, just a few motnhs after Martinez arrived at Goodison Park as a replacement for David Moyes.

Speaking to The Daily Star Sunday, McGeady was effusive in his praise for the Spanish coach.

"The gaffer here is different class," said McGeady.

"It's great to be working with someone like him because I have seen the way players have developed under him.

"Tactically, he is one of the best I have ever worked with. He knows what he is talking about and it would not surprise me if he landed a job with one of the biggest clubs in the country, or the world."

McGeady pointed to the recent game between Everton and Aston Villa as a moment when he saw the effectiveness of Martinez’s tactical nous.

"They were playing 3-5-2 and he kept telling me not to track back so their wing-back would be occupied by me,” McGeady said.

"I was standing on the touchline thinking, 'This is a bit strange, I feel lazy'. Fans were looking at me as I was letting guys run past me and I looked at the manager and asked, 'Is this okay?'

"He just said, 'I don't care what is being said, don't track back, we want you for the counter-attacks'. It just shows how clever he is."

The everton manager has previously spoken of his admiration for the player, saying?: “With Aiden we had to start from scratch in terms of building up the fitness levels that he needed and we can already see he’s a phenomenal player. He has great technical ability and it’s important to get him feeling sharp so he can show that.

“He’s settled in really well and over the next few weeks I think we’ll see him ready to really help our season.”
