Graeme McDowell's defence of his title at the Volvo World Match Play Championship has been brought to a premature end.

McDowell has lost his final group match against Joost Luiten by two holes at the London club today, which means that he will not progress to the weekend field.

Luiten carded three birdies over the final four holes to claim maximum points from the group stages and end McDowell's involvement.

Shane Lowry has also been eliminated after being beaten 2&1 by Pablo Larrazabal.

Meanwhile, Kevin Phelan is the only Irish player to remain inside the cut at the Hong Kong Open.

The Waterford man ended his second round on 4-under par, which is 5 shots behind out-right leader Ernie Els.
