Graeme McDowell’s WGC Match Play journey came to an end last night as France’s Victor Dubuisson took a place in the semi-final of the $9m event with a 1 up win over the Northern Irishman.

McDowell had come from behind to win his 3 previous matches, including a playoff win over Hunter Mahan in the last 16, but could not repeat those dramatics as he bogeyed, and let Dubuisson take the lead, at the par 3 16th.

McDowell trailed by 1 at the start of the back 9 – as Dubuisson marked 3 birdies on the way out – but was twice able to draw level before his bogey 4 at the 16th.

There was a ray of hope on the final as Dubuisson got into trouble and McDowell had a 24 foot putt to send the game to extra holes. McDowell couldn’t sink it however, and the Frenchman goes on to face South African Ernie Else in the semi-final.
