Japan's Hideki Matsuyama is the latest Top 20-ranked golfer to withdraw from the Olympics because of concerns about the Zika virus.

The World No 17 says the strong reactions he gets from insect bites was the main reason for pulling out.

"Although I realise that my potential success would help grow the game in Japan, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot put myself or my team member's health at risk," he said.

Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy are part of a large group of golfers to blame the Zika virus for their decision not to compete in Rio, alongside World No 1 Jason Day.

Matsuyama's highest finish at a major event was his tie for fifth at the 2015 US Masters.
