Ireland manager Martin O'Neill says James McCarthy's hamstring problem has improved, but is refusing to make a call on the Everton midfielder's fitness ahead of Friday's Euro qualifier with Scotland.

McCarthy was the only member of the squad not to take a part in training this morning, instead he merely walked laps of the Gannon Park pitch.

"He is feeling better so we will see what tomorrow will bring," said O'Neill.
