Former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova has been included in Russia's tennis team for the Olympics, despite being suspended for failing a drugs test.

The multiple Grand Slam winner is waiting to hear the outcome of an anti-doping hearing into her case.

The London 2012 silver medallist was handed the provisional punishment in March after admitting a positive test for meldonium.

The drug was only put on the banned list by the World-Anti Doping Agency at the start of this year, and there has been some doubt over the length of time it takes to leave athletes' bodies.

Recently, BBC tennis commentator Alastair Eykyn spoke to Newstalk Breakfast about Sharapova's news and claimed that she would be "ill-advised" to participate at the Olympic Games in Brazil.
