The Football Association has rejected an appeal by Manchester City over Fernandinho's red card against Burnley.

The Brazilian midfielder will serve a four match suspension after his sending off on Monday for a challenge on Burnley player Johann Berg Gudmundsson after just 32 minutes of play.

It is the third time he's been dismissed in six matches.

He had previously been sent off at the end of City's 3-1 home loss to Chelsea on December 3rd after clashing with the London side's midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

That red card in the seventh minute of stoppage time in that fixture earned the player a three match suspension.

Fernandinho's first and other red card this season came on Champions League duty in a 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach on November 23rd after receiving two yellow cards.

City have picked up four red cards in the Premier League this season, with Sergio Aguero sent off once and also being given a retrospective ban for an incident with West Ham defender Winston Reid.

Nolito was also red carded late on in City's 4-0 home win over Bournemouth earlier in the season.
