Manchester City and Chelsea football clubs have been handed fines for failing to control their players during a Premier League clash between the sides earlier this month.

The two teams have been fined £35,000 and £100,000 respectively after both admitted a breach of FA Rule E20(a).

They were charged for failing to ensure their players "conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour" it was announced today.

Players from both sides clashed after a Sergio Aguero tackle on David Luiz, which resulted in the Argentinian's sending off. Teammate Fernandinho was also sent-off for his part in the skirmish which ensued. The midfielder was sent from the game after being involved in an altercation with Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas.

Chelsea were fortunate to escape a points deduction, having been fined five times by the FA for failing to control their players since February 2015. In May they were fined £290,000 for a bust-up with Tottenham players at Stamford Bridge.
