Manchester United have climbed to within five points of the Premier League summit after a 3 - 2 win at Hull City.

But the champions were made to work hard for the points after going 2 - 0 down within the first 15 minutes.

James Chester put Hull in front with a fourth minute volley, before Ireland midfielder David Meyler struck a deflected shot off Jonny Evans on 13 minutes to put Steve Bruce's side in command.

But Man United had restored parity by half-time.

Chris Smalling headed in from a free-kick on 20 minutes before Wayne Rooney equalized with a powerful strike from 20 yards out.

The Reds completed the turnaround with 23 minutes to go when Chester headed in an Ashley Young cross after Maynor Figueroa had failed to cut out a Danny Welbeck ball to the winger.

United held on for the win but endured a nervous end to the match after Antonio Valencia was given a second yellow card for kicking the ball away and David De Gea saved a late Chester effort.
