Manchester City have gone up to second in the Premier League after a 2 - 1 win over Liverpool.
The Sky Blues have brushed away all visitors to the Etihad this season.
But Brendan Rodgers side gave them a run for their money.
The Reds took the lead on 25 minutes when Raheem Sterling rounded goalkeeper Joe Hart and left it for Philippe Coutinho to side-foot in from an angle.
But City were back on level pegging on the half-hour mark when Vincent Kompany powered in a header from a corner kick.
Manuel Pellegrini's side then hit the front just before half-time when Simon Mignolet failed to stop Alvaro Negredo's tame effort.
City held on for the vital win, although Liverpool did carve out chances before the final whistle.
