A man in his 20s has been arrested following an attack on Olympic Silver Medallist John Joe Nevin in Mullingar this morning.

Gardai were called to a dispute involving a number of individuals in the Ardleigh area shortly after 11am.

The boxer, along with another man and a woman - both in their 20's - were taken to The Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore, with non-life threatening injuries.

The Olympian's leg has been broken in two places.

The man arrested is being questioned at Mullingar Garda station where he can be held for up to 24 hours.
