The first 45 minutes at Anfield this afternoon felt like a seamless continuation of last Sunday’s attacking master class at White Hart Lane and once again had us wondering just where Luis Suarez's current form ranks in the pantheon of goalscoring hot streaks. The second half was more of a contest but ultimately Luis Suarez and the free scoring Liverpool notched up their fourth consecutive league win, scoring their 17th goal of those 4 games in the process.

The first half of this game saw Suarez get his  18th and 19th goals of the last 13 league games. Cardiff seemed entirely unable to curb Suarez doing what Suarez wanted to do, even for a few brief moments. Suarez is playing with a childlike ease recently that is both mesmerising and terrifying. Cardiff’s back four seemed to fall prey to its spell for the first half.

The first was a sweetly struck volley into the bottom left corner of David Marshall’s net. The second Suarez goal, and the third of the game, was a beautifully hit curling shot from the edge of the area.

It could have been another hat-trick for the Uruguayan but in the fleeting moments between his goals he gave up a one on one chance against Cardiff keeper David Marshall to set up Raheem Sterling for a simple finish. The young winger accepted the gift wrapped goal.

Cardiff forced Liverpool to work harder in the second half and pulled a goal back after 58 minutes when Jordon Mutch scored a free header from a Peter Whittingham free kick into the Liverpool box. Brendan Rodgers spoke after the 5-0 win at Spurs that he was pleased with how his side did not ease off in the aftermath of Paulinho’s red card. Today he was forced into an 83rd minute substitution to solidify his defence as Coutninho was replaced by Daniel Agger to offer some insurance against any late Cardiff resurgence.

Liverpool go top of the league with the win while Cardiff remain in 15th.
