Brendan Rodgers has selected a side built to attack for today’s game with Philipe Coutinho starting and Lucas, the more defensive option, beginning the game on the bench.

Manchester City meanwhile have been boosted by the news Vincent Kompany will almost certainly start the game. In recent moments, however, Manuel Pellegrini has said the Belgian is not a  certainty until after the warm-up. Sergio Aguero, however, can’t make the starting XI on his return from injury but does start on the bench.

Liverpool are without Daniel Agger, the Dane can’t shake off a knee injury and so Mamadou Sakho comes in to start alongside Martin Skrtel at the centre of Liverpool’s defence.
