The sporting world is continuing to come to terms with the untimely death of Jonah Lomu.

Lomu died yesterday in Auckland. He was 40 years old. He played 63 times for his country and was part of the team that dominated the sport in the 1990's. Despite the domination, Lomu failed to win a World Cup, coming closest in 1995.

In 2006, Ger Gilroy spoke to Lomu in an Off the Ball Legends Interview. You can hear the great man speak to Ger about receiving a kidney transplant which is even more poignant to hear today. Lomu was on a transplant list waiting to receive a new kidney before his untimely death.

"You get a second chance at life", Lomu told Ger about the transplant. Lomu was donated a kidney by Grant Kereama and he made sure that Kereama was fully comfortable with donating the kidney. "He had looked it up, what the risks were".

"You need the kidney", Kereama told Lomu. Despite having a wife and three children, Kereama felt comfortable donating the kidney to Lomu.

"My biggest strength personally is my mind. My mind is my biggest weapon. I think to myself that I'm not going to be beaten. I'm not going to let this illness beat me either and I'm not going to have it rule my life. That's the way I have always seen it. That's how I have attacked rugby. I wouldn't change anything. That's including the illness, because it's made me, me".
