The Lions have defeated New South Wales Waratahs 47-17 in a night when almost all went according to plan for the tourists in the Sydney Football Ground. The one black mark on the evening for Warren Gatland’s side was an injury to Jamie Roberts, which saw the Welsh centre looking distraught as he limped back to the dressing room.

Tom Croft, Leigh Halfpenny and Jonathan Davies added to first half tries from Leigh Halfpenny and Jonny Sexton. Halfpenny put in a superb performance, with a hat-trick of tries supplemented with some flawless place kicking.

Simon Zebo enjoyed a superb opening 40 minutes to his Lions career, having a try ruled out by the video referee after just 40 seconds and subsequently involving himself in a major percentage of all Lions activity.
